- The installation program should be copied into a temporary directory.
- Run SETUP.EXE by double-clicking it in NT Explorer.
- After the extraction process is completed, the setup program will install and register the service.
- Determine the root directory for RES-Reach. The setup will create it if required. You may wish to read the section concerning your Web server before deciding this. The setup process will install executable files in this directory, and create the following subdirectories: HTML (HTML files); NBT (sample applications); DB (databases for sample applications).
- Place the REACH.EXE file in a directory configured by your Web Server as a CGI directory. (You
may rename the REACH.EXE file if you wish.) Use NT Explorer to make the exe file Execute-only, if possible.
- At any time, the application can be removed from the list of services from the NT command prompt, by changing to the directory where the Reach32.EXE file is found, and typing "Reach32 -remove". Similarly, it can be added by typing "Reach32 -install".
- Select the Services icon of the Control Panel, and find the RES-Reach 32 Internet Service. Adjust its startup parameters as desired, and give it a login account that gives it access to the NBT files and the databases, and is compatible with your Web Server. (Technical Note: the task spawned by the Web server runs under the same account as the Web server in some cases, and in a designated account in others. It communicates with the service via "named pipes", which have permission structures similar to NTFS files.)
It is assumed that the Microsoft 32-bit ODBC Desktop Drivers, version 2.0 or above, have already
been installed. The drivers included in NT Server 4.0, Service Pack 3 are recommended.
